Hi friends,
Here comes my next blog post, actually this is a trick to move your maximize, minimize, close buttons from one end of the window to another. I found this trick by a mistake. Im a mac gui lover, so i wanted to add mac os X theme for my feddy. I installed mac4lin theme, but something went wrong and i couldn’t get the actual mac look and feel.. So i roll back to my previous default feddy theme. Even after that, the buttons in window dint change their position (In mac systems, maximize, minimize, close buttons will be on top left hand corner). Thats annoyed me. So i was put up in a situation to change those buttons manually. Here i did like this:

Snapshot of my window before changing:

To get those buttons on right hand corner:

1. Open your Run Application window by ALT+ F2

2. In that type “gconf-editor” without quotes, it will open configuration editor.

3. In that go to apps -> metacity -> general

4. There you can find a parameter “button layout” which maintains the position of buttons in a window

5. Change the value as: menu:minimize, maximize, close. Thats it. we done it!!!!

Snapshot of the window after changing:

Hi Friends,
A brand new fedora 13 has been released couple of days ago with the code name goddard. Most of the fedora lovers like this edition, which was shipped with more enhancements and with some slight modifications from previous editions. One notable change in this edition and of course in previous edition is that, main menu preference will not be available (that is System -> Preference -> Main menu wont exist). This change made some people worry. So let us see how to enable that preference and group the mostly using and needed items in our main menu as per our wish.

To do this we have to install a separate package called “alacarte”.

Step 1:

Open a terminal, login as root by typing
su -

Step 2:

use yum to install that pacakge with following command:

yum install alacarte

thats it. now you will have main menu preference. have a look at this following picture:

Hi friends,
Recently i came to know about the method to add a context menu entry in the nautilus window manager. By using that we can easily add music files to the playlist, instead of drag them and add to the list.
Initially you should have nautilus-actions-config package. Here we go

1.open the terminal and type

nautilus-actions-config
it ll open a window.

2. In that click add, it will open a new action window.

3. In that, specify the following things:

label: add to playlist
tool tip: add to totem playlist
icon: /usr/share/pixmaps/totem.xpm
path: totem
Parameters: –enqueue %M

3.then in the conditions tab
Filenames: *.mp3
MIME type: audio/*

4.then in advanced conditions tab,
select local files option.

save that action and close the terminal and reboot the system.

Hi friends,
Today i installed LAMP in my UBUNTU 9.10. LAMP in the sense Linux, Apache web server, Mysql database and scripting languages like Python,PHP,Perl. LAMP is a web application development stack. Before this i used LAMP in Fedora. When i typed the same commands to start mysql service and apache service in UBUNTU 9.10, i found that those commands did not work at all. So i tried to google it and came with the following information. Here are the commands to start the Mysql,Apache2 server:

1.First you should login as root, by typing
su -
then give your root password

2.Then to start mysql:

/etc/init.d/mysql start

3.Then to start apache server

/etc/init.d/apache2 start

4.To stop these services, type

/etc/init.d/apache2 stop
/etc/init.d/mysql stop

Hi friends,
Here is a little story about the worst experience i got wit fedora 12… As like other Linux distributions, i was very much attracted by Fedora 12, before its release… The reason could be the well known rock-solid stability of fedora distributions… yesterday I got the Fed 12 DVD and started to install.. There is no problem with the installation… Once I finished the installation, i reboot the system, to my surprise the very first message appeared after i logged into the system was YOUR KERNEL HAS BEEN CRASHED I was very much frustrated at that second itself.. I searched for the description for the kernel crash.. But I couldn’t find any description for the crash..
I left that and tried to connect to Internet via the network manager… first time it worked fine.. Once i reconnect the next time it didn’t work.. Next crash report was NETWORK MANAGER CRASHED ..
Software installation also caused problems.. This was not happened to myself alone but also for my friends.. They found difficulties for installing the nvidia libraries… So many bugs.. I dono what the hell the testing team did at fedora development unit…. So be aware before the installation of FEDORA CONSTANTINE….
